On 22nd August 2013, His Excellency Fujio Samukawa, the Ambassador of Japan to Malawi handed over School Blocks for Mpondasi Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Mangochi district.
Mpondasi CDSS is one of the two community day secondary schools situated at Mangochi Boma. It has a big catch-ment area with a population of over 1 100 students seating for national secondary school entry examinations. Unfortu-nately, the school capacity is not enough to accommodate the entire pupil population. Its capacity can only enrol 50 students.
In order to provide quality education and improve access to secondary education in the area, the Government of Japan supported Mangochi District Education Office with a grant amounting to USD72, 396 (about K27 million) under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects. The grant has enabled Mangochi District Education Office to expand the capacity of Mpondasi CDSS through the construction of two school blocks and procurement of furniture.
Through this support the official class capacity will increase from 50 to 100 students for one form, and the official school enrolment will increase from 200 to 400 at Mpondasi CDSS. This will enable more students to access secon-dary education in the target area. Honourable Chikumbutso Hiwa MP, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Tech-nology graced the occasion as guest of honour. |
